Description
Some of the most acclaimed Latin American films will have free screenings in West Michigan during the 4th annual Grand Rapids Latin American Film Festival, April 4-7, at Celebration! Cinema North & IMAX and Wealthy Theatre. Featured guests will include Venezuelan filmmaker Juan Andrés Bello and Argentine director Gustavo Taretto on Saturday April 6. See individual listings for each date.

The festival will include screenings of 14 films from Cuba, Mexico, Guatemala, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Uruguay, and Argentina, focusing on a wide range of contemporary subjects, including, "Hermano/Brother," a 2010 film from Venezuela, directed by Marcel Rasquin. Sponsored by the Consulate of the República Bolivariana de Venezuela in Chicago

This 97-minute film focuses on two young men who have been raised as brothers and look to their soccer skills as a way of getting out of their slum. While a scout is in town, an act of violence threatens to tear them apart. In Spanish with English subtitles.

All festival events are free and open to the public with support from Aquinas College, Calvin College, Ferris State University, Davenport University and Grand Valley State University, Mexican Consulate in Detroit, Argentine Consulate in Chicago, Consulate of the República Bolivariana de Venezuela in Chicago, Consulate of Brazil in Chicago, MOSTRA, Chiaroscuro Film Series, Celebration!
