Description
Some of the most acclaimed Latin American films will have free screenings in West Michigan during the 4th annual Grand Rapids Latin American Film Festival, April 4-7, at Celebration! Cinema North & IMAX and Wealthy Theatre. Featured guests will include Venezuelan filmmaker Juan Andrés Bello and Argentine director Gustavo Taretto on Saturday April 6. See individual listings for each date.

The festival will include screenings of 14 films from Cuba, Mexico, Guatemala, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Uruguay, and Argentina, focusing on a wide range of contemporary subjects, including, "Las Malas Intenciones/The Bad Intentions," a 2010 film from Perú, directed by Rosario García-Montero.

With humor and heart, this offbeat drama tells the story of Cayetana, a solitary Peruvian 8-year-old girl with a vivid imagination, convinced that she will die the day her brother is born. The 110-minute film, rated PG-13, is in Spanish with English subtitles.

All festival events are free and open to the public with support from Aquinas College, Calvin College, Ferris State University, Davenport University and Grand Valley State University, Mexican Consulate in Detroit, Argentine Consulate in Chicago, Consulate of the República Bolivariana de Venezuela in Chicago, Consulate of Brazil in Chicago, MOSTRA, Chiaroscuro Film Series, Celebration! Cinema North and IMAX, Wealthy Theatre, Radio La Poderosa 640AM e Interferencia 810 AM, Rick Rhoane y Leandro Robles.
