March 12
El Cerrito (2006)
Documentary by Juan Andrés Bello, 57 min
Throughout the 50s, the ideals of modern architecture were made possible in Caracas. Armando and Anala Planchart decide to build their new house. They contact renowned Italian architect Gio Ponti, who falls in love with Venezuela forever. The Villa Planchart, also known as El Cerrito, would become his masterpiece.

March 13
Construcción de una Ciudad
How to Build a City (2007)
Documentary by Néstor Frenkel, 95 min.
This documentary tells the story of Federación, a small Argentine town that was demolished and flooded during the late seventies, and its inhabitants compulsively moved to a new town because of the building of the Salto Grande dam. Through interviews and footage of the time, the film invites the viewer to reflect on the meaning of identity, memory, and progress.

March 14
Havana, New Art Out of Ruins (2006)
Documentary by Florian Borchmeyer, 86 min
Havana is famous for the morbid charm of its flaking facades. The beauty of this city lies in the poetry of its ruins. They are far less poetic, however, for the people who inhabit them. Houses frequently collapse causing fatalities. The decay of the city and its living quarters is a continual source of both danger and shame for its residents.
