Cook Auditorium, Grand Rapids Art Museum
Sheldon Kopperl, a Grand Valley State University professor of biomedical science with an interest in religious studies, will give a presentation in conjunction with the 2012 Year of Interfaith Understanding. His informative lecture will examine biblical sources for a series of works by the renowned artist Salvador Dali.
Although Dali returned to his Roman Catholic roots and became more devout after World War II, his interest in the State of Israel is shown in his execution of two series of prints for Israel's 20th and 25th anniversaries.
The latter series, "The Twelve Tribes of Israel," represents the Biblical descriptions of the tribes combined with Dali's unique surrealism and politics.
Admission is free for museum members, $5 for non-members. More Information, visit http://www.artmuseumgr.org/. Learn about additional 2012 YIU events at http://www.2012gr.org.
