Friday, October 12, 2012
7:30 PM

L.V. Eberhard Center, GVSU Pew Grand Rapids Campus

The 2012 Great Lakes History Conference, October 12-13 at Grand Valley State University, will focus on the theme, "Born in Revolution: History, Gender and the Power of Conflict." The conference places special emphasis on fostering collaboration among scholars in Grand Rapids and West Michigan history, academic and non- academic alike and to cultivate interdisciplinary work.

Nearly 20 panels with various historic themes will be presented over two days. Keynote addresses, which are open to the public, include film director Grace Lee speaking on her feminist documentaries on Friday, at 7:30 p.m., and Beatrix Hoffman, from Northern Illinois University, speaking Saturday at 12:15 on the history of health care in the U.S.

Visit www.gvsu.edu/history to see a complete schedule. For more information, contact conference co-chairs: Tammy M. Proctor (tproctor@wittenberg.edu) or Gretchen Galbraith (galbraig@gvsu.edu).

Co-Sponsors of the 2012 Great Lakes History Conference are the Women's and Gender Historians of the Midwest and Grand Valley State University College of Liberal Arts and Studies, Women & Gender Studies, and History Department.

Established in 1975 to allow faculty from teaching institutions in the Midwest to present their scholarship to colleagues, the Great Lakes History Conference now attracts faculty, graduate students, public historians, and independent scholars from across the country.
