Louis Armstrong Theatre, Performing Arts Center, GVSU Allendale Campus
German dramatist Bertolt Brecht and composer Kurt Weill transformed old fashioned opera with the fresh sounds of jazz and cabaret style music, inspiring the musicals "Cabaret" and "Chicago."
"The Threepenny Opera" is set in Victorian England. Macheath (Mack the Knife) is a notorious felon and womanizer who runs his own gang of thieves and marries the daughter of the King of Beggars. He is eventually arrested, convicted and scheduled for execution. Yet much changes at the last minute. This political satire will also feature a live jazz orchestra.
