Description
T. Fleischmann, a Grand Valley writing major and 2005 graduate, will open the 2012 Writers Series while visiting as part of the CLAS Distinguished Alumni in Residence program. The author will give a craft talk on Thursday, October 18, from 1-2:15 p.m. in room 2215, Kirkhof Center, followed a public reading in the same location, from 4-5 p.m.

Born in Hemlock, Michigan, Fleischmann lived by the Great Lakes until attending the University of Iowa and completing an MFA in nonfiction writing. Now a nonfiction editor at DIAGRAM, Fleishmann has settled in rural Tennessee and works as a freelance educational writer.

The author's essays have appeared in Fourth Genre, Pleiades, Indiana Review, Gulf Coast, and The Pinch, as well as in the feminist magazine make/shift, and have been Notable Essays in The Best American Essays, 2009 and 2010.

Fleischmann's first book, Syzygy, Beauty, was published in March 2012 by Sarabande Books.
