Description
Ray McLellan was appointed university carillonneur at Michigan State University in 1997. He teaches and performs on the 49-bell Beaumont Tower Carillon and directs the Muelder Summer Carillon Concert Series.
He began carillon studies with Margo Halsted at the University of Michigan in 1989, while completing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree. He also studied for one year, on full scholarship, at the Padagogische Hochschule in Freiburg, Germany, and earned a certificate for carillon study at the Netherlands Carillon School in Amersfoort as a student of Todd Fair.
McLellan has performed recitals in many parts of the United States and Canada. He serves on the examination committee and is chair of the nominations committee for The Guild of Carillonneurs in North America. In addition to his academic work, he is the director of music for St. Michael's Church and the organist at Temple Beth Emeth in Ann Arbor.
