Description
Banks co-founded the American Indian Movement in 1968 and authored, "Ojibwa Warrior: The Rise of the American Indian Movement," published in 2004. He has taught at Stanford University and served as chancellor at Deganawida Quetzecoatl University (DQU), an American Indian institute of higher learning. In 1992 Mr. Banks appeared in "Last of the Mohicans."

The Conversation will feature a segment of the acclaimed 2009 PBS documentary series, "We Shall Remain," in which Banks appeared. After a short intermission, he will take part in a discussion on an array of topics including the American Indian Movement, contemporary challenges and the future of American Indian communities. Levi Rickert (Potawatomi), the former executive director of the North American Indian Center of Grand Rapids, will be moderator.

The public is welcome and admission is free.

Additionally, Banks will conduct a workshop at the Great Lakes History Conference at GVSU's Eberhard Center on Saturday, November 14.
