Description
Award-winning saxophonist Jonathan Nichol was appointed assistant professor of music at Grand Valley State University in 2009. Prior to this appointment he was an adjunct professor of saxophone at Grand Valley and at Alma College.
Nichol is also instructor of saxophone at the Interlochen Center for the Arts' Michigan All-State Band program, and is a doctoral candidate at Michigan State University. Nichol's primary teachers have been John Nichol, Joseph Lulloff, Rob Smith, Deigo Rivera, and Rodney Whitaker.
He is a recipient of the prestigious Michigan State University Distinguished Fellowship. Nichol graduated from Central Michigan University Summa Cum Laude earning a bachelor's degree in music education. He also holds a master's degree in music performance from Michigan State University.
Nichol has performed with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Harry James Orchestra, Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra, and many other notable ensembles. He is a member of the acclaimed H2 Saxophone Quartet, recipients of the prestigious Gold Medal at the 2007 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
