Description
Nationally known artist, performer and pedagogue of trombone, Mark. R. Williams joined the faculty of Grand Valley State University fall 2008. Prior to accepting this position, he served for over 22 years in the United States Air Force Band and achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. As principal trombonist with the U.S.A.F. Concert Band in Washington, D.C. for 14 years, he performed in all 50 states and throughout Europe and Asia. Williams can be heard on over 30 compact discs recorded during his tenure with the U.S.A.F. Concert Band. In addition to his performance career, Williams was trombone instructor at Shenandoah University in Virginia.
Robert Byrens is an artist-faculty performer at GVSU where he serves as head of the collaborative piano area as well as professor of viola. He was a member of the Perugino String Quartet from 1992-2004. Byrens works with Opera Grand Rapids where he has assisted as rehearsal pianist and resident vocal coach since 1994. The recipient of several collaborative piano awards, he was a finalist in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, and performed on the Dame Myra Hess concert series in Chicago.
