Every year, the Department of Art and Design hosts its Padnos Distinguished Artist-In-Residence Annual Event. During this event, the current chair of the endowed position presents his or hers creative practice to the university community at large, fulfilling the position vision of enhancing the experiences of art students, both majors and non-majors, at Grand Valley State University. The program for the annual event varies in each edition.
For the 2016 edition of the event, the department sponsored an evening of conversation between composer, multimedia artist editor and author DJ Spooky and Padnos Distinguished Artist in Residence Nayda Collazo-Loorens, moderated by Dr. Jill H. Casid. During Re:Sampling — Remix and Appropriation in Music and Art, the trio discussed various modes of sampling in our culture, in an active and engaging dialogue.
