WELCOME
Welcome to the Department of Art & Design at Grand Valley State University. The program has grown in recent years to include over 300 majors, 25 full-time faculty and instructors, and a beautiful 72,000 square foot facility. Students may now choose from nine different emphasis areas in the studio program as well as a major in art history. This fall we welcome Virginia Jenkins as the new chair of the department. She brings with her a wealth of experience as an artist, teacher, and administrator. We look forward to working with her during this new phase of growth and development for our program.
This year the Visiting Artists Program and Stuart B. and Barbara H. Padnos Student Art and Design Gallery will bring nationally recognized artists to west Michigan for lectures and workshops. We are fortunate to have the distinguished printmaker, Steven Sorman, continuing as the Stuart B. and Barbara H. Padnos Chair in Art and Design. This year, students will work with him in a seminar about the interaction of words and images as well as in a special topics course on papermaking.
