Minor in Art

The Department of Art and Design offers students in other majors the opportunity to pursue an interest in the visual arts.


Minor in Studio Art

The art minor offers students in other majors the opportunity to pursue their interest in the visual arts. Students take seven courses for the minor for a total of 21 credits

  • two 3-credit Studio Art courses at the 200 level or above
  • one 3-credit Studio Art course at the 300 level or above

Art History Courses (3 credits)

  • one 3-credit Art History course at the 200 level or above

Course with "ART" designation (3 credits)

  • one course with an "ART" designation. "ART” courses include studio art courses at any level (including 100 level foundation courses), ART 101, art history at any level, and art education courses at any level.

Minor in Art History

The minor in art history is designed to offer students a general introduction to the study of art history and its methods.  It offers students from many disciplines including - studio art, the humanities and professional degrees - the opportunity to examine the contexts for the production of the visual arts.

For a minor in Art History, the student must complete one 3-credit course from the following:

1 World Art Distribution Course (3 credits)

For a minor in Art History, the student must complete one 3-credit course from the following:

2 Required Elective Courses (6 credits)

For a minor in Art History, the student must complete two 3-credit elective courses from the following. Electives cannot duplicate courses taken to fulfill distribution requirements:
