The self-direction nurtured in the third year of study is reinforced during students’ remaining
time at GVSU. In advanced classes, you will have greater independence for sustained
growth in your emphasis area. This intense personal focus is balanced by preparation
for life beyond the university whether one chooses to enter independent practice,
graduate school or the professional arena. The Senior Seminar and internship
opportunities challenge students to develop their portfolio and acquire the skills
necessary for self-advocacy after graduation. The Capstone art history course
focuses on issues in art and enhances your understanding of contemporary discourse
and visual culture. Every student pursuing the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree will
integrate these skills as they prepare a senior thesis exhibit which is the culmination
of their experience in the Art and Design program.
