RECENT FACULTY ACTIVITY

Associate Professor Lorelle Otis Thomas has earned national recognition for the MathAnimals game she designed to teach children arithmetic skills. Since its publication, the game has received several awards including: Best of Show in the American Specialty Toy Retailers Association 2006 competition, Preferred Choice Award in the Creative Child Magazine Awards Program, and Game of the Year Finalist, Kids Category, from Educational Board Games.

Renee Zettle-Sterling recently participated in several international exhibitions: Jewelry Journey Air at The Museum of Art and Craft in Hamburg, Germany, The Association for Contemporary Jewelry "Carry the Can" Conference in London, England and The Art of Gold, an on-line exhibition. In addition, her work was selected for the Society of North American Goldsmith Conference held in Chicago, IL, Shelter Me, at the Lillstreet Art Center, Chicago, IL, and Self: Portraits and Narratives, at the Muskegon Museum of Art, Muskegon, MI.

Dellas Henke spoke on the role of the artist in Samuel Beckett’s work at Beckett and the Visual Arts: Round Table Discussion on April 9, 2006 in conjunction with the Beckett Centenary Festival in Dublin, Ireland.

Sigrid Danielson presented a paper titled, “Reforming the Image: Episcopal Patronage in Medieval Italy” at the International Medieval Congress held July 10-13, 2006 at the University of Leeds, England.

Bill Hosterman provided a demonstration of drypoint lithography on September 22 at "Forging Connections: the Mid-American Printmaking Conference 2006" held at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Ann Kiester curated and participated in Sources and Resources: Works in Textiles and Metals.  This exhibition continues through September 22, 2006 at the GVSU Art Gallery in the Performing Arts Center on the Allendale campus.

Timothy Fisher presents his work in the exhibition Recent Paintings by Scott Addis and Timothy Fisher at the Springfield Museum of Art in Springfield, Ohio. The show continues through October, 28, 2006.

Renee Zettle-Sterling’s exhibition of metalwork Studies in the Ephemeral will be touring fall 2006. Venues include: Artspace, Richmond, VA; the McLanahan Gallery, Penn State Altoona, Altoona, PA; and the Art Gallery, Illinois Central College, East Peoria, IL.
