ART 322 - Medieval Art

< Back

This course investigates the visual arts as a dynamic force in the lives of European and Mediterranean people from the fourth through the fourteenth centuries. Studying a variety of media, we examine the complex issues of one's place in the world, the use of violence, the construction of power, issues of faith, gender relationships, and of course, romance in medieval art. In addition to considering the medieval past, we analyze continuing reverberations of the period in contemporary art and popular culture.
