Employment:

Part-time employment in the arboretum is available to current GVSU students during the spring/summer and fall semesters. Some of the duties include landscaping, mowing, pruning, weeding, and basic tree care. Applications are available through the Student Employment Office (101 Student Services Building) or Online.

Please Note: You must indicate the "VanSteeland Arboretum" as choice of work area on the application. The arboretum is not part of the grounds department. Please direct any further questions to Steve Snell, the university arborist.

Schedule an Event:

To arrange an event at the VanSteeland Arboretum, contact the university arborist with the information at the bottom of the page.. Events held in the arboretum are limited to those which pose no immediate threat to the health of the tree specimens, floral beds, or lawn areas. Typical acceptable events include weddings, scavanger hunts, and picnics for small groups. Unacceptable events include football and soccer games, paintball, and other large group activities that tend to damage lawn and landscaping. All events are subject to arborist discretion.

GVSU Memorial Garden and Memorial Tree Program

The university arborist is also involved with the GVSU Memorial Garden and Memorial Tree Program. Brochures are available at the entrance pergola of the VanSteeland Arboretum and several other locations around campus.
