Jeff Chivis is a doctoral candidate at Michigan State University and a member of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi.  He is an archaeologist specializing in the prehistory of the Eastern United States and ceramic petrography. 

His dissertation focuses on identifying passive and active displays of identity from ceramics, the formation and maintenance of social boundaries on multiple spatial scales, and the variable types of interactions occurring during the Middle Woodland period (~200 B.C. – A.D. 400) in west Michigan.  He has taught ANT 111 and is currently teaching ANT 311.
