Laker Varsity Athlete Challenge

And the winners are...

Our 2016-17 Varsity Challenge is nearing completion with only three months left to go. This friendly year-long competition amongst our varsity team's former athletes has shown great success with an overall giving participation rate of 14.1%. It is a tight race to the finish with women's golf leading at 18.87% participation, followed by men's basketball 17.18% and women's lacrosse at 16.22%. Women's lacrosse is also in the running for winning the highest increase in giving over last year at 200%!

Each winning sport will be awarded $1,000 each to their program. Support your program today!

Thanks to you, GVSU continues to be the leading Division II program in athletics in the country. The Laker Athletics program captured our 11th Learfield Sports Directors' Cup, which is the national all sports trophy. More importantly, 64% of our student-athletes achieved a 3.0 GPA or better for the Winter Semester. Your GVSU Lakers are performing at a high level in the classroom, as well as in their competition. Thank you again for your continued support!

  • How does your team win?
The varsity team with the highest percentage of participation this fiscal year and the team with the largest percent increase in participation from the previous year will each win $1,000 for their varsity team.
  • How do you participate?
All you need to do is donate any amount to a fund of your choice, which can include your team's designated fund at GVSU. Every former varsity athlete who makes a gift between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016 will be counted toward the challenge. Search for a fund here.
  • How does your participation help your Grand Valley varsity team?
This challenge provides all of our former athletes with a great opportunity to get involved. By making a donation of any amount and encouraging your former teammates to do the same, you can have a meaningful impact on your team's chance to win $1,000 to meet their athletic needs in the future.
