Paul E. Fishback
Dr. Paul E. Fishback is professor of mathematics at
Grand Valley State University. He has served as a member of the GVSU
faculty since 1993.
Fishback received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from
Hamilton College in 1985, and went on to earn a doctorate in
mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1992.
Fishback is described by his former students as approachable,
patient and engaging. They commend him for his ability to make very
difficult subject matter easily understandable.
He is
recognized for his accessibility, concern for the personal and
professional development of his students, and the passion he has for
his subject matter. He has been the GVSU chapter advisor for Pi Mu
Epsilon, the national mathematics honor society, since 1999. He is
also a member of PME’s national council. He previously served as the
department liaison to the Mathematical Association of America, for
which he is still a member.
Fishback has authored various
articles on wide-ranging mathematics topics, having co-written with
his former students on numerous occasions. His textbook Linear and Nonlinear Programming with Maple: An
Interactive, Applications-Based Approach will be published
December 8, 2009.
Fishback and his wife Barb currently
reside in Grandville with their two children.
