Julie Coon, '75

After serving as a clinical nurse for the first seven years of her professional career, Julie Coon, ’75 began her life in nursing education in 1982. Since then, Coon has held such positions as associate professor, head of the department, and, currently, interim dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences and director of the School of Nursing at Ferris State University.

Coon has also dedicated her time and service to several local organizations such as the Michigan Association of Colleges of Nursing, the Michigan Council of Nursing Education Administrators, and the Michigan Nursing Education Council. She has been a member, chair, representative and president of these organizations which meet throughout the year to tackle the issues surrounding the nursing shortage.
Since 1978, Coon has been honored with several awards for her work in the nursing community. She is also a member of the American Nurses Association and the National League for Nursing.

She and her husband reside in Lake City. The couple has two children and two grandchildren.
