Alumni Career Coaching Community

This program will equip GVSU alumni with career search skills that increase confidence and lift noticeability with hiring organizations while helping discover what the next chapter can look like.

Program Overview

Welcome & Pre-Work: Setting the Stage for Success
Accepted alumni must participate in a welcome conversation to set the stage for coaching community participation.  This will be an informal conversation around goals, expectations, and providing self-reflection pre-work.

Week 1: Calming Imposter Syndrome
Imposter syndrome feels like your just making things up as you are going along and that someone is waiting around the corner to call you out.  We’ll spend time discovering and taming these gremlins.

Week 2: World of Work as a Whole Being
Society has conditioned us to compartmentalize our lives; we believe that you should live an authentic life that encompasses you are a whole being – and chart ways of setting goals.

Week 3: Where Can I Go + Professional Toolkit Development
We’ll begin to hone into what your new chapter can look like and how to begin bringing it into focus.  You’ve also got a few years of experience; it’s time to repackage your resume, cover letter, and social presence – we’ll walk through revamping your professional toolkit to get you where you want to go.

Week 4: Enriching Your Career Search + Salary Research
You’ve put in the work to determine spaces you would like to be in, now let’s strategize how to get there in the most efficient way.

Week 5: Interview Success + Peer Partners
No matter the stage of career development interviewing can be frightening.  We’re going to strategize how to be a knockout interviewee.  There is power in the eyes of others; we’ll peer review each other’s work to make your professional toolkit even more dynamic.

Week 6: Self Advocacy + Celebrations
It often seems like we can advocate for others without hesitation; however, when it comes to ourselves, we clam up – we’ll learn some techniques for lifting our voices.

Post-Cohort: Closing Questions
Cohort members may schedule a 30 minute closing conversation to have discuss any lingering questions about where to go from here.
