Young Alumni Line Up for Life Lessons 60 Young Alumni gathered for an informational event on May 19. Life 101: What You Didn't Learn in College gathered together recent graduates who enjoyed networking, socializing and attending educational sessions on topics such as budgeting 101, first-time home buying and insurance basics. The event was an opportunity for recent graduates to make connections, gather with friends and hear presentations by talented alumni speakers. View event photos.

Rowing Alumni Chapter News Rowing Alumnus Has Research Published - Dane Gallagher, '06, earned a B.S. in physical education and biology from Grand Valley. His research on strength and endurance conditioning of GVSU rowers was published in the May 2010 issue of the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. Head Rowing Coach, John Bancheri also contributed to the article.
Laker Navy Claims National Championship Three-Peat - The GVSU Rowing Team earned ACRA Women’s Team Points and Overall Team Points championships for the third straight year. The American Collegiate Rowing Association Championships were held May 22-23 in Oklahoma City.

Grand Valley Launches New Web Resource for Business Owners and Entrepreneurs
GVSU recently launched a new web portal at www.gvsu.edu/businessresource to help business owners and economic development professionals locate community resources vital to growing companies. The site collects 17 different entities within Grand Valley and offers both organizational and topical links to a wide range of consulting, training, market specialization, research and other services. Created by the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center at GVSU, the site is furthering GVSU's commitment to providing a comprehensive support network to the business community and economic developers.

Grand Valley is seeking applications for the W. K. Kellogg Foundation’s Woodrow Wilson Michigan Teaching Fellowships beginning June 15. Qualified applicants possess a degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics and are interested in teaching science or math in one of Michigan’s high need secondary schools. GVSU is developing an innovative 36 semester hour graduate program leading to a M.Ed. degree and secondary teaching certificate. 20 applicants will be selected for each of the 15 month programs beginning in June 2011 and 2012. In exchange for a commitment to teach for at least 3 years in a qualifying school, selected Fellows will receive $30,000 to pay for tuition, fees, and living expenses while they complete the program. Grand Valley Wins 2009-10 GLIAC President's Cup GVSU captured its 12th straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference President's Cup, commonly referred to as the league's all-sports trophy. The 2009-10 President's Cup is the Lakers' 17 all-time. The Laker women scored 86.5 points in 10 sports, while the men tallied 79.0 points in nine sports. The Lakers took 10 GLIAC Championships during the year (Men's Cross Country, Men's Indoor Track & Field, Football, Men's Golf, Women's Golf, Women's Cross Country, Women's Indoor Track, Women's Outdoor Track, Women's Soccer, Men's Swimming & Diving) and added six second place finishes. Seventeen of GVSU's 19 sports finished third or higher during the 2009-10 academic year.Full Story |
