CHRISTINE NELSON, '70
Grant consultant for the Steelcase Foundation, Christine Nelson, ’70 graduated from Grand Valley State University with a BA in group social studies. After starting her professional life as a teacher in the Grand Rapids public school system in 1970, she continued her education at Western Michigan University where she earned her MA in Elementary Education and continued her education at Michigan State University earning a PhD in Family Ecology in 1985.
The same year, she became assistant professor for the Michigan State University’s department of family and child ecology. During her time as professor, she became responsible for SPACES which helps prepare kids for their high tech and global future. In 1992, Nelson accepted the executive director position for the Child and Family Resource Council where she remained until 1997.
Nelson has received the Leadership Award from the Michigan Children’s Trust Fund and the Emerging Leader Award from the College of Human Ecology at Michigan State University. She currently lives in Empire, Michigan.
