Archaeology studies the breadth and diversity of human experience, from the earliest appearance of humankind to the recent past. You can gain interesting insights into your own society and cultural heritage through the study of archaeology.

Program Offerings at Grand Valley

The archaeology minor offers a flexible program that can include study in a variety of disciplines such as anthropology, art history, classics, geology, history, and more. Students will have the opportunity to take part in excavation projects and other collaborative research with faculty and students. For details, visit www.gvsu.edu/archaeology/.

Coursework

Students pursuing the minor in archaeology complete seven courses (minimum 22 credits) as follows:

  • Three core courses (ten hours total).
  • One cross-disciplinary elective (three, four, or five hours depending on chosen course).
  • One field research practicum (three hours minimum).
  • Two regional issues courses (six hours total).
