God in America is first-of-its-kind, 6 hour documentary that explores the 400 year history of religion in the public life of the United States.The series first aired in October 2010 and it explores the history of religious faith and beliefs that have forged America's ideals, molded its identity and shaped its sense of mission at home and abroad. The series intertwines documentary footage, historical dramatization, and interviews with religious historians as it knits together the story of America's rich religious history.

Each Sunday during April and May we will host a speaker who will share something of the traditions, doctrine and ritual of another faith and the ways in which practicing that faith nurtures their lives. We have invited the speakers to particularly consider the understanding of evil and of forgiveness in their traditions - what is evil? How did it originate? Why does God allow it? How is it defeated?

The Twelve Tribes of Israel portfolio is Dali's most popular and sought after set of prints. Their delicacy of drawing and poetic imagery reflect the best aspects of Dali's artistic talent. Created during 1972, the prints were published in 1973, the 25th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel, and depict the Hebrew tribes that were founded by the twelve sons of Jacob as the tribal father of the people.



Salvador Dali celebrates the 25th anniversary of Israel, by an artistic reflection on the theme of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. The evolution of the Tribes through their descendents into the Thurd Jewish Commonwealth, after 2,000 years of exile is one of history's surrealistic developments. Salvador Dali is therefore the artist best fitted to depict the first Israelites. His portrayal of the theme in this album is representational art at its best. It is carried out with the same technique and same combination of skills as that which finds expression in his poems, film scenarios, and designs for the stage, for fashion, for furnishings, and for jewelry. What amtters particularly to us in Israel is that Dali transcribes with unique artistic dexterity, our ancient thoughts and dreams, and gives meaning to our tribal memory. even is the portrayal is ambiguous or ambivalent as so much of Dali's work must be, it is nevertheless of vivid impact upon us who labor and live in Israel today. Out of his fervid and diverse imagination, Dali, in this album, helps to immortalize the dawn of Israel's civilization and to enlarge the mystique of its survival and progress.

"Living with God in a Time of Suffering"


 


Individuals experience suffering and evil in ways that often challenges their faith commitment and understanding. How does the religious parent deal with the experience of a child suffering from cancer or severely injured by a drunk driver? How does a faith community respond to horrendous evil such as experienced in the Holocaust or a tsunami or violent earthquake that takes hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of lives? What the resources in the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim scriptures and faith traditions that help us deal with such challenges to one's faith? The 2012 Interfaith Dialogue will address these questions that we face as individuals and faith communities, in the context of the 2012 Year of Interfaith Understanding.
